The Church that Attacked the Prime Minister

What quality is it that makes this model of the Duomo of Milan the object of choice to attack the prime minister of Italy with? My thoughts range from the pragmatic to the enigmatic, from the innocent to the conspiracy but one thing is sure, this simple fact sparks the imagination.

I imagine Massimo walking through the slushy snow. Hearing the bell of the opening door of the souvenir shop. Massimo looks around, touches, and holds the several souvenir objects in his hand. Feeling, gripping, weighing, assessing the objects. Picking this one, the Duomo. Heavy, a solid metal, pointy, with one extra long spire. His hand wraps around it nicely.

I wonder what the alternatives were. I wonder if Massimo was inspired. If his hand was trembling or not when he received the change from the lady behind the counter.
